OTTAWA -- An Ottawa police officer is going to find out what life is like behind bars.

Constable Sonny Wong has been sentenced to 90 days in custody for illegal transfer of firearms and ammunition theft.

Wong will serve the time on weekends.

A judge has also given the officer a conditional sentence that includes six months house arrest.

Ottawa Staff Sergeant Monique Ackland says Wong gave the firearm and ammunition to someone without a permit.

Ackland says they were not police property or items seized by the force.

Wong, a 14-year veteran of the Ottawa Police Service, resigned from the force this morning.
