Golden Kelly snubs dad

Kelly ... no hope of reunion

Wednesday, September 1, 2004

OLYMPIC superstar Kelly Holmes said yesterday there was “no hope” of a reunion with her estranged father.

Double gold medallist Kelly, 34, was speaking for the first time about Derrick Holmes, who walked out on her mother when she was two.

Painter and decorator Derrick, 54, says he is desperate to be reunited with Kelly.

He said: “I just wish I could hug her again. I love her.”

But defiant Kelly — back home with mum Pamela in Hildenborough, Kent — wants nothing to do with the dad she has not spoken to since she was 19.

Told by The Sun yesterday that he wanted to patch up their differences, Kelly said: “There’s not a hope.”

She insisted: “I don’t want to make any more comment about him.”
