A 19-year-old Owen Sound mother has been charged with aggravated assault following an investigation into injuries that her baby suffered.

Inspector Vince Wurfel of the Owen Sound Police says the case was brought to their attention early Wednesday when officials at Grey Bruce Health Services hospital became suspicious about injuries to the two-and-a-half-week-old boy.

The infant was transported to London Health Sciences Centre in critical condition later that morning.

He's currently listed in critical but stable condition.

The suspect has been remanded in custody pending a bail hearing on Monday.

The mother's name will not be released, to protect the identity of the baby.
