Former Bernardo groupie faces sex charges

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - A former Paul Bernardo groupie who notoriously fawned over the killer at his court hearings is facing charges of sexually assaulting two boys.

Lori Kooger, formerly Brown, will be in St. Catharines, Ont., court for what's scheduled to be a two-day trial beginning Feb. 18.

Kooger's trial was supposed to begin this week. But the trial was adjourned after the judge was informed by the Crown and defence attorneys of a recent development.

The 44-year-old is facing charges of sexual interference, sexual assault and invitation to sexual touching connected to allegations she allegedly assaulted a young boy in the Niagara region sometime between September 2004 and July 2009.

Kooger is also facing similar charges involving a 12-year-old boy in Whitby, Ont.

All charges are still before the courts.

A publication ban protects the identity of the victims.

In the 1990s, Kooger labeled herself the No. 1 fan of sexual predator Bernardo, who is serving a life sentence for the rape and murder of Leslie Mahaffy and Kristen French. She spoke to numerous media about her obsession, which included her dying her hair blonde, keeping vigil at the courthouse were Bernardo was on trial and often waving and trying to catch his eye while calling out "Paulie".

She appeared on the American TV show A Current Affair and was profiled by Chatelaine magazine about the bizarre attraction.

The mother of three has since told QMI Agency that she has put the obsession behind her.
